Win 1 of 3 Imagination featuring Leee John album + EPs
Ends: 13 November 2017
The UK’s Most Vibrant Soul Survivor, Leee John, Returns With Typically Stellar Sound with Retropia Part 2 EP and album Retropia
Recognised as one of the guiding lights of UK funk and soul, Imagination founder, Leee John now unveils his new EP Retropia Part2 taken from the album of the same title, with lead track, “Make Your Mind Up” dripping with the glorious, effortless glide of primetime grooves with which he made his name.
Leee has never sounded better, his soaring falsetto remains one of the great treasures of British music, a clarion call to drop what you’re doing, stretch out on the sofa and reach out for a cocktail. “Make Ur Mind Up” could just have easily sprung from the late 1980s, the incessant funking bass barely able to keep up as you race towards the deliriously catchy chorus, a life-affirming, almost spiritual experience which will have even the most stubborn of feet dancing away like Michael Jackson .
Leee John was (and is) one of the pioneers of UK black music, exploring the deeper soul and groove sounds of 1970s America, then largely ignored by the music press and an enigma to the listening public. His love of funk and soul has never diminished, having worked tirelessly throughout the 80s and 90s as a writer, producer, charity ambassador, film-maker, TV star, raconteur…but Leee has always remained a musician first and foremost and his new EP finds him in imperious form.
Also on the EP is “Fantasia”, another irresistible slab of strutting soul and funk which evokes images of Chaka Khan at her peak. This music without barriers: sounds to inspire; to relax to, to dance to, and to remember why you ever fell in love with music in the first place.
