Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards: Brimful of Aussie talent
The 2013 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards have wrapped up their eighth year, delivering a superbly entertaining evening and presenting 14 awards to some of Australia’s finest talent.
Last night’s Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards left Flume overflowing. The electronic and international breakthrough artist, Flume won four awards: Best Independent Album, Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Dance/Electronica album and Best Independent Dance/Electronica or Club Single.
Another successful independent act was the frenetic King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. After winning the award for Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album for their debut record “12 Bar Bruise”, the band was awarded the opportunity of a lifetime: a $50,000 grant for emerging independent artists, specifically designed to help musicians amplify their profile overseas.
The Breakthrough Independent Artist award went to talented new singer songwriter Vance Joy, who also won the Best Independent Single/EP award for his superb “God Loves You When You’re Dancing” EP. Hip-hop artist Seth Sentry won the Best Independent Hip Hop Album for his epic release “This Was Tomorrow”.
Not all award winners were newcomers. The award for the Best Independent Blues and Roots Album went to legendary Paul Kelly for his 19th studio album “Spring And Fall”.
Once again the Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards proved to be one of the music industry’s most entertaining evenings. Awards, food, free drinks, and excellent live performances from artists who crossed all musical genres including Archie Roach, Seth Sentry, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Violent Soho, Big Scary, Rufus and Saskwatch.
