It would be fair to say the Old Blue Last is something of an institution in the borough of Hackney. It has stood on the corner of Great Eastern Street and Curtain Road for over three whole centuries, serving up beer and good times to its locals. In recent years the pub was bought by VICE and has since played host to everyone from the Arctic Monkeys, Hot Chip and the Foals to Amy Winehouse, Mumford & Sons and Santogold, building a reputation as a legendary place to play and an even better place to spend your evenings.
And so to the big day, a stella line up of bands and dj’s was announced and had the crowd queuing well out the door, keen not to miss a thing. Inside, the atmosphere was buzzing with dj’s setting the mood both up and down stairs as good times were had by all.
The special guests of the evening was Peace, who for a band about to go on tour played a very intimate show. They dazzled the crowd with their jangly guitars and rock riffs, reminiscent of an early Smashing Pumpkins. With the drinks flowing they got the crowd jumping and even crowd surfing. They were a tight band and looked like they loved playing as much as the crowd loved being there. All credit to the Old Blue Last for landing such an exciting new band.
The full line up: Peace, Plus Queen's English (Linimal Sounds) and Phèdre.
Playing Records: Jen Long (Radio 1), RFB & Transgressive Sound System, Rich Thane (The Line Of Best Fit), DIY, Subject, Russ Tannen, @edlilo, Streets Of Beige, Baby Love, Pink Mist, No Pain In Pop, Mischa Mafia and Steve XL
Happy birthday Old Blue Last, and here’s to the next three centuries!
