Imagine your toes in the sand, friends on deck chairs, the smell of burgers grilling on the barbecue, sweet cocktails and funky/electro/pop music. Yes, it is real! These are the Farah Fridays on Camden Beach pier.
Since the beginning of August, Farah, the well-known label born in 1920, and the Roundhouse have welcomed a massive eager audience every Friday night. They present the “Farah Fridays” that offer the best in recent music, with exclusive – and free! - gigs. The design is to inspire and give some room to young musicians.
Last Friday saw the performances of four great artists: Jack Allet, Phil Maguire, Maxixe (to be pronounced “mak-cease”) and Fauxlo, a female DJ, admired for her cheeky remixes.
Jack Allet showed breath-taking guitar playing skills that kept the audience wanting more: the sound was limpid, full of various rhythms. He set the atmosphere for Phil Maguire. With a more electro resonance, his gig was fascinating and intriguing, which is something you are expecting from a music you are hearing for the first time.
Then came Maxixe, a duo of musicians formed by Marc Pell and Darren Bancroft. Again, quite an unusual sound that left the audience gob smacked, but in a good way!
Finally, the night ended with Fauxlo and her seriously impossible to resist remixes: it got the crowd dancing and shaking their behinds; A great ending to a quite surprising and original evening in Camden.
There are only three “Farah Fridays” to go so don’t miss out on these fantastic nights that will make you feel like you are on holiday in the heart of Camden.
