Another year, another album. Scott Herren is back offering another dose of his knowledgeable skills. And no it's not another Prefuse 73 album, although this wouldn't be a bad thing. If you remember last year prefuse released the outstanding One Word Extinguisher followed by the triumphant Extinguished: Outtakes (Alternate takes and beats from one word extinguisher). This time we are gifted with another chapter in the Savath & Savalas series.

The new album entitled Apropa't is very different from previous works in the Scott Herren saga. For the past 18 months the Atlanta legend has been living in Barcelona, Spain searching for his untold family roots. Here he has hooked up with an unknown Catalan singer/songwriter Eva Puyelo Muns to work on this new album. Considering Eva has never been involved in any musical ventures, this is already proving to be a winning combination.

This collection of stunning tracks has been described by Scott Herren himself as being Straight up, Catalan/Castellano vocal-based folk steez. Apropa't is chocka with well-honed guitar sounds ranging from classical guitar, harmonium, concertina, bajo sexton, guitarron, harps along with Scott & Eva's well cultured vocals that makes this album sound out-and-out brilliant. Every now and then we are treated to a sample sound of prefuse that can be heard floating in the background. You can hear this on the track Déjame. Each track captures an atmospheric melodic mood of a soft sea breeze on a warm foreign shore.

Simply delightful.
