We Are The In Crowd and Never Shout Never were forced to relocate their gig venue from the Manchester Ritz to Manchester Academy 2, as the pair teamed up to co-headline their UK/Ireland and European tour.

Accompanied by the deafening shrieks from an abundance of adolescent females, Joplin trio Never Shout Never were first to take to the stage and held the honour of kicking things off; which they took turns to change the responsibility of throughout the tour. As a product of the MySpace age that has now obliterated, it’s a somewhat unexpected and a monumental achievement that the cheery sounds of Never Shout Never’s indie pop tunes infused with folk elements have managed to survive.

Frontman, Christofer Drew, entertained the crowd with his eccentric personality and between pretending he was a cat and meowing, played multitude of instruments to complement his light-hearted, juvenile lyrics. Providing the female dominated audience with a mix of old and new, including Trouble and On The Bright Side and newer material such as the contagiously psychedelic song, Magic, there was something endearing about the band’s performance. The band also showed how they’d experimented on the latest album with California Slang which takes a new direction with a charming southern twang.

Ensuing, Poughkeepsie pop punk quintet, We Are the in Crowd, seized their opportunity at turning the crowd into a frenzy, armed with ineludible hooks in their hit singles such as Kiss Me Again, Never Be What You Want and On Your Own. Taylor Jardine and Jordan Eckes’ dual vocals complimented each other impeccably as the night unfolded, highlighting the contrast in their two vocal styles. The band continued to energetically prance around the stage to the upbeat tunes which the audience screamed and danced along passionately to.

In contrast to the prevailing jovial mood, We Are The In Crowd changed the tone dramatically when they broke out perhaps their most sincere song, You’ve Got It Made, with its bona fide lyrics. Picking things back up again the five-piece finished with an encore of Carry Me Home and Rumour Mill; during which Taylor Jardine launched herself onto the barrier mid-song as fans responded to by flocking towards her which left fans with a smile on their faces.
We Are The In Crowd will be performing on the main stage at both Reading and Leeds Festival.
