The Smoking Hearts - Victory! - Printable version
The Smoking Hearts deliver. They couple Hardcore and Punk with a surprising talent for melody and with lead ‘vocalist’ Ben Mills pouring his vitriol out through shattered vocal chords and straining sinews they have a brilliant frontman.

Not that the rest of the band are any slouches. Nobba Green (guitar), Calvin Roffey (bass) and Simon Barker (guitar) formed the band a few years back and added Matty Taylor on drums and they have been winning local competitions and, you guessed it, hearts ever since. The addition of Ben Mills after they released the first album has completed the band and they really do sound as though they are a complete package.

The most impressive thing, for me, is the way that they are abvle to mix humour and pop sensibilities into a hardcore sound and even when they stray into Thrash territory they still have an innate musicality about them.
I half expected to get fed up with the constant aural assault but they boast a few touches that remind me of Enter Shikari and that adds a listenable element.

Young, snotty and full of the joys of life – positively irrepressible.
