There's much talk in 2012 about the return of the guitar band but in truth they've never gone away. Tonight there are three examples of what you'll find should you care to look as this sold out show at The Lexington (London) demonstrates.
East London 5-piece Dexters have already been tipped by NME and Q and it's not hard to see why as tonight's headline act take to the stage amid frenzied scenes. They sound like the bastard child of The Clash, The Jam and The La’s and have infectious energy and big tunes to match. "Start To Run" is pop rock at it's finest and "Oceans" would not be out of place closing Glastonbury. Yes, it's that good. Having already supported The Twang, Viva Brother and with support shows with The Enemy and Reverend and The Makers and a debut single to come, this is clearly a band going places.

So too are The Sundowners. Hailing from The Wirral these scouse songbirds bring light, warmth and joy to the stage. Influences drawn from The Byrds, Fleetwood Mac, The Breeders, Belly and The Coral there's no denying the quality of their songs or their musicianship. "Hummingbird" and "No Goin' Back" are Mersey Paradise indeed.

Storm Cat, signed to the same management as The Verve and Snow Patrol are just putting the finishing touches to their debut album and look set to join their stablemates at the top table of rock. Lead singer George Runciman has a voice easily as good as Richard Ashcroft or Gary Lightbody and tunes to match. Huge potential.
