Grime seems to be heading in more commercial direction, and Roll Deep’s latest release alongside Strictly star and solo success Alesha Dixon is no different.

‘Take Control’ is a mixture of Roll Deep’s usual urban underground sound with 4 of their MCs on vocals, however Alesha’s voice distances the track from their older work and establishes them as a commercial grime outfit. Although The Saturdays were rumoured to be guesting on the track, the guys got it right in Alesha and the track has already hit the UK top 30 earlier in November. The song is catchy as hell without offering anything too unique, but then again that’s how to conquer the UK charts.

Whilst it’s sad to see grime becoming so commercialised, at least Chipmunk now has a handful of decent rivals and Roll Deep can certainly grow into major players in the genre with a few more efforts like this.
