The Captains Rest has an underground feel to it: it's dark and it's cold, but sound-wise its up there with the best little venues in Glasgow. Kerrie Lynch may have opened the bill at Captains Rest, but she did enough to suggest it wont be long till she headlines and fills venues far bigger than this one.
Kerrie flawlessly rattled through an entertaining set and any nerves that may have appeared in between songs were quickly swept away every time a new song started. It was a fantastic vocal performance and she has some excellent potential both lyrically and musically.
The highlight was an outstanding cover version of the classic 4 Non Blondes song `Whats going on?` complete with a crowd sing-a-long. Expect to hear more form this talented lady.
`Full House` (Formerly `Borthwicks`) played a decent set and brought a good crowd who seemed to enjoy their headline set but they were slightly topped by the 2nd act of the night, a band called `Duck Hunt`. The band played a fusion of blues, Folk, Jazz and funk. Sounded like early Chilli peppers or perhaps Fun Lovin Criminals with the lead singer bursting with passion and well written lyrics. There was an air of Bob Dylan about him and the last song they played was a Neil Young classic to a well received audience.
All in all, A good night was had at the Captains Rest with Kerrie Lynch being the surprise star at the heart of it.
