Having started out life as ‘Tiger Please’ Leon Stanford (vocals), Tyla Campbell (guitar), Lewis Roswell (drums), Pete Mills (bass guitar), Greta Isaac (vocals) have now found their musical feet as The People The Poet.
Their 2013 debut album, 'The Narrator', took emotive stories submitted by their fans, about a range of subjects from fatherhood and body image to fighting cancer, and brought them to the boil before serving with a range of musical delights.
‘The Narrator’ was self-released on November 4th 2013 with no management, financial backing or label guidance. Garnering deserved press it made a respectable showing at No. 38 in the iTunes rock chart and was nominated for a Welsh Music Prize.
The first single 'Take' - released as an EP '3 Years In Limbo' - scaled to No. 21 in the same chart and was playlisted on Planet Rock Radio. The next single 'Stabilisers (I Will Be)' had it's video exclusive with Classic Rock and was championed by BBC Radio Wales as well as Planet Rock Radio, Kerrang Radio, XFM, Nation Radio and UCB.
Single 'Molly Drove Me Away' made it to BBC Radio 1 on Huw Stephens with music video "The Narrator" being produced (in separate sessions) by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters/Jimmy Eat World/Counting Crows), Peter Miles (We Are The Ocean/The King Blues/Canterbury) and Todd Campbell (Straight Lines/ Exit International) .
A UK tour with Charlie Simpson, then a run with Jim Lockey and The Solemn Sun was followed by festival appearances at Latitude, 2000 Trees and Merthyr Rocks.
Deaf Havana and Straight Lines supports slots also bolstered their live show. The People The Poet go from streghth to strength.
Music-News.com caught the show at Latitude at The British Embassy during SXSW in Austin, Texas and was blown away by the vast, deep, unlifting sound. With the whole audience singing along it is clear that big things beckon The People The Poet.
