What started out as a group of musicians coming together to perform a one-off covers gig has grown into something more. Encouraged by the positive response from the audience, and the sheer enjoyment of making music, the four-piece needed little persuasion to continue beyond the gig. And that ‘something more’ is a hauntingly beautiful version of Wilco’s Listening to the Wind that Blows, written with Billy Bragg using the lyrics of Woody Guthrie.

Paying homage to the original, and losing none of its poignant country folk sentiment, the Symptoms lay their own musical marker in the sand. Neil Pearce’s tender melancholic tones combined with Mike Kenward’s heart-string plucking lead guitar, are firmly anchored by the Barnett-Edwards Rhythm Machine. The result is a joyously heartfelt, and solemnly uplifting debut release.
