Off the back of supporting Eric Clapton, London based Hunter & The Bear announce themselves with this strong set of four tracks on their second EP, that evokes comparisons from the likes of Mumford & Sons to The Band.
Lead single Pick Me Up ticks the boxes for the those Mumford mentions - with gentle acoustic guitar building to an anthemic climax - which also has echoes of Runrig. But there is much more depth to the four-piece as Rise nods more to the Seventies and Robbie Robertson's The Band. It's a terrific piece of folk-rock with Will Irvine's powerful vocal in full force. Montana Men shows their lighter touch while the driving On The Run is sure to be a live favourite.
The band were formed in Newcastle but moved south in 2012 in a bid to raise their profile. Along with Irvine, there is a well crafted sound created by Jimmy Hunter (lead guitar), Gareth Thompson (drums) and Chris Clark (bass). Already getting rave reviews for their live set - this EP shows they can also do the business on record. Ones to watch.
