A fine EP of rollicking Blues with gusto and pizzazz.

Bob Malone has released six albums and his seventh is due but this EP seems to be more than a taster for that album and it really kicks some regal ass.

His keyboard sound is classic – Wurlitzer piano and Hammond B-3 – and when you add some powerful harp courtesy of Stan Behrens, Bob DeMarco’s guitars, Mike Baird and the magnificent Kenny Aronoff on drums you are looking at a great sound.

They roll between the power and boogie of ‘Certain Distance’, the Delta slide of ‘Toxic Love’ and some gorgeous New Orleans piano on the sparse ‘Hard Times’ while the closer ‘Rage & Cigarettes’ is real nasty Blues.

Malone’s vocal is rough and raw but he carries a tune with ease and couple that with his keyboard skills and you can understand why he has been so successful thus far.

Can’t wait for the new album based on this but it stands up on its own too – a little cracker
