Leon of Athens is not the title of an undiscovered Shakespeare play but a singer songwriter from Greece. This shy Arsenal fan has just released his new single ‘Global’ from his upcoming album to be released in June. The single and album were inspired but the recent turmoil in his own country producing a melancholy track with moving and heart wrenching lyrics.
The single ‘Global’ catches the essence and fragility of his experiences and has a similar quality to the Jose Gonzalez track ‘Heartbeats’. This is a radio friendly song with its catchy chorus and has been produced by Tony Doogan who has worked with the likes of Belle and Sebastian. The production gives the track that extra special polished feel and thankfully has not been over-cooked keeping true to the soul of the song.
The cinematography of the ‘Global’ music video feels like a short film rather than a music video for the sake of the song – check it out! The next release from the album will be ‘Baby Asteroid’ and keep your eyes peeled for the video as it will be directed by Yorgos Lanthimos who was nominated for an Oscar for the film Dogtooth.
Don’t miss Leon on 1st May at the Monarch in Camden for an evening presented by Mark Beaumont from NME. Listen below to Leon chatting about what we can expect from his album and working with an Oscar nominated director.
