For a band with such a messy name, Dark Captain Light Captain make a seriously beautiful noise as is evidenced by this all-to-short ep of remixes.
Opening with a cascade of glockenspiel, acoustic guitars and layered vocals so soft they could fly away if you breathe too hard, you barely notice the subtle throbbing entrance of the four-to-the-floor kick drum which lifts ‘Questions’ from the doldrums to the dancefloor. The glitchy electronica of ‘Remote View’ extends the already blissful palette even further as it weaves around and trips over itself. The only weakness here is the annoying faux post rock meanderings that follow and the reprise of ‘Questions’ as a further dub remix which only serves as a prompt to return to the crisp, glorious beauty of the original.
If there’s a copy of the album, Miracle Kicker, out there, it would be a worthwhile investment as the brilliance here is far too fleeting. Flawed, but fantastic nonetheless.
