Amazing Baby

Seared scallops, fillet steak and some sort of chocolate pudding, complement each other and probably make for presentable and enjoyable meal. However, they probably wouldn’t work as well all mashed up and served up on a plate. There’s a lot of that on Rewild.

However, when they do separate out their influences, which are seventies glam, pop and prog, the results are far more palatable: the Bolan melodies of Bayonets, the rather more sinister Floydian overtones of Invisible Palace, or glam era Bowie on Kankra.

Old Tricks in Hell and Roverfrenz are fillers, though sandwiched between the two is the hypnotic The Narwhal. Some songs are too busy such as closer Pump Yr Breaks.

Amazing Baby have a delivered an interesting album, and if that sounds like damning with faint praise, it shouldn’t. It clearly doesn’t all work, especially when the kitchen sink is slung in, but it’s not dull. It stands out from the crowd, which is not something that can be said of a large percentage of music being produced at the moment.
