There’s really no question as to why Michael Eavis gave these unknowns a slot at his legendary festival. Or why they were signed so early into their career – all boys are no more than 18. Or why tonight’s showcase host, Aloud.com, handpicked them for this full to capacity occasion.
As even on the premise of a five-song set, Pinstripe proved themselves to be quite possibly the next big thing. The band name may evoke memories of suited and booted trendy indie types Menswear, but the Somerset four-piece could not be further from something so disposable.
Fronted by cheekboned-beauty Josh Thorner, whose model looks could easily have been plastered on billboards all over town, the band play with all the dignity and grace of one much wiser than their years. Aligning themselves with Keane and Coldplay – "but with bigger guitars" and more edge – the piano-led group are right to aim so high. They’re clearly going to get there themselves.
Blending music so tender with youthful energy and passion – noted in the emphatic mute sing-a-long of bassist Charlie Brixey – makes for one mighty, enduring promise. New single 'Did I Say', which opens as though skilfully hovering between The Killers' two albums, should start things off perfectly. And gorgeous track 'Closest Thing' – the closest thing to heaven may just be Thorner’s vocal actually – will carry them far. Oh be still my beating heart.
