The last Thursday of the month means only one thing for Camden’s Tommy Flynn’s. Ok so maybe two things, brilliant music and jovial behaviour. Seriously though, this months MNP Showcase was one to remember.

First up to the stage was Yucca Candy. Even though Ben was minus Steve (drummer) his acoustic talents were the perfect way to ease the crowd into an evening of fine music. His performance was laidback and his songs had a warmth and charm Jack Johnson would be jealous of.

Following Yucca Candy were two-man band known as Flaming Vest. Made up of a multi instrumentalist Matt Peterson and an acoustic guitarist Phil Milmine these guys whizzed through a set of undemanding yet bloody enjoyable acoustic rock that brought a big, loud crowd. Some of the music on display had amazing dynamics that sorely needed a drummer to take advantage of them. Alone they are a good band. Add a drummer to the mix and these guys have the potential to make a serious impact.

Talking of Impacts. The small stage was barely enough to contain Clones equipment let alone the cacophony that emitted from the speakers once they began. Combining the melodic rock of Foo Fighters with a more visceral punk edge, The Clones are a musical Frankenstein you cannot afford to miss. They made quite an impression with a set choc full with punchy hooks and clever rhythms. The whole of the pub came under their spell, with people who were previously sitting on the other side of the bar coming round to witness the spectacle unfolding.

After such a powerful set The Instants have their work cut out. Luckily pulled off an assured and solid performance. Unpredictable front man Steve Daines was on startling form, his presence on stage lending a focal point to the B52’s spiced 60's groove they have going on. His voice soared over the bands delightful melodies. They finished the night in style, drawing an appreciative response from an energetic crowd.

And so another successful night of unsigned music drew to a close. A massive thank-you has to go out to everyone who took part. We hope to see you again some time! If you want something to do on a Thursday night that does away with all the bullshit and posing, Music-News Presents... Unsigned is just the thing you need!
