Ever onwards, upwards and still the most Rocking 'n' Rollingest night you're likely to have in London at the moment.
Two new venues to boast; one being the place to be in Angel, 'The New Rose' and the second being 'Lowlife', the infamous Gallagher brothers favourite watering
hole in Marylebone.
Oh, and let's not forget founding member 'The PsychClown' (aka Martyn) now has his own weekly Sunday lunchtime show on Resonance104.4FM... so turn on & tune in to his drop out tunes.
More of a 'pub' night than a club night, Bonanza came about due to a boy and a girls mutual obsession with The Blues, Country, Rock 'n' Roll old 'n' new, Bluegrass, Garage Punk, Freakbeat and Psychedelia combined with a severe lack of anywhere half decent to down a pint or ten AND listen to some good tunes.
So our heroes 'The PsychClown!' and LineDancer decided to form a boy/girl dj duo, get a little demo together (they stayed up all night like little shoemaking elves making/ mixing it) and set about finding somewhere and someone up for it.
Well two years down the line, lots of shit and more venues than you can fit in the Albert Hall, BONANZA is now a regular fortnightly event at 'Dream BagsJaguarShoes' 34 Kingsland Rd. Shoreditch E2. and various places around town where they require decent tunes.
Like anyone, Bonanza's tastes are varied...In a nutshell it's classic tunes popular or underground, new or old, rocking or laid back... So you're likely to hear Johnny Cash rubbing shoulders with The Pretty Things, Skip Spence alongside Otis Redding, Carole King rubbing up against Lee Hazlewood (ooer!), Robert Johnson back to back with Uncle John and Whitelock and The Seeds germinating with Bobbie
Gentry.
Current faves are The Godfathers (remember them?) Tom Petty's 'Full Moon Fever' lp, 'Sweet Tea' by Buddy Guy plus lots of Dylan, even more Hendrix, loads of Neil Young and all the Hanks!
As well as djing themselves there will often be live acts/bands and guest djs (all demos will be carefully considered).
So get ya self down there...alternatively you could continue to put up with the same old sanitised, corporate pap 'THEY' force down ya throat...The choice is yours.
