Ashley Roberts was supported by her best friend Kimberly Wyatt throughout her cancer scare.

The singer-and-dancer faced a tough time when she had to have pre-cancerous cells surgically removed following a cervical smear test.

Luckily her friend and former Pussycat Dolls bandmate Kimberly was there to make everything just a little easier.

"Kimberly Wyatt took me to the hospital the first time and stayed with me," she recalled to British magazine Star. "I'm thankful I have friends and family to help deal with it."

Ashley had to go through three procedures, with operations in 2008, 2009 and 2012. She's been clear ever since and is counting her blessings.

"Fortunately doctors caught it early. I've had to have a few procedures, which is not comfortable or fun, but thank God I'm healthy now. I wake every morning in gratitude for that. Health is wealth," she shared. "I try my best to have a positive outlook because mental awareness is an important way to lead your life."

Ashley has now teamed up with charity Cancer Research UK to raise awareness of the importance of regular smear tests for women. Celebrating her health and working on the very worthy cause mean things like dating have fallen by the wayside - but the blonde beauty doesn't mind.

"Not at the moment, but I'm open to a relationship," she answered when asked if she was seeing anyone. "I'm very independent. Unless you rock my world, I'm just like: 'Nice to meet you, bye!'"
