Selena Gomez felt violated following her split from Justin Bieber.

The 23-year-old star dated the pop singer on and off from 2011 until last year, when they seemingly called it quits for good.

With her changing personal life comes a fresh new image thanks to her sexy sounding music and mature movie roles, giving her the opportunity to take control of her image.

"It was very violating and I think it was such an outlet for me to talk about how I see things. Honestly, it's the first time somebody said: 'So what do you want to do?' and I literally had no idea what I wanted to do because I didn't have anyone to fall back on," she told Wonderland magazine. "I wasn't asking Disney, I wasn't asking anyone. It was going to be solely me. And at this point there had been so many people talking about my life."

Selena's new album, Revival, is due for release next month and the brunette beauty has teased fans with the racy album cover showing her semi-naked on social media.

But there's more to it than meets the eye, as the musician and actress documents her struggles - such as briefly entering rehab last year - and feelings through the album's lyrics.

"I wanted the opportunity to figure out what I'm going to say and how I'm going to say it so people can understand me. It took about a year in total to figure it out," she added of her new record. "Obviously it is exciting and beautiful and I can't wait. It is going to be my revival - that's why I've titled it Revival. I had to realise that the real world was exactly where I need to be, or else I'm going to lose my mind."

Her reincarnation has been slightly tainted though with mean jibes from people about her weight. Selena has shrugged them off and shared her opinion on the addiction with selfies to the publication, revealing she believes they make people think less of themselves.
