Robin Thicke’s son helped him cope following his split from Paula Patton.
The 38-year-old singer is father to Julian, five, with his ex-wife. The pair split in February 2014 after nine years of marriage. He has now moved on from the split and is happily dating girlfriend April Love Geary.
But he says it was time with his little boy during a break from the music industry after the breakdown of his marriage that helped him put it behind him.
“I started songwriting and producing and singing professionally when I was 16, and I never really stopped until last year,” Robin told Good Morning America during an appearance on the show on Wednesday. “I took some time off to just be with my son and my family. It helps you gain perspective on what’s important in life.”
Robin previously attempted to win his former spouse back by penning songs for her. He now has a new single to promote, Back Together, but has denied allegations that the track is about actress Paula.
Adding that he didn’t even write the song himself, Robin said: “I just heard this idea of getting back together and getting yourself back together.
“What I was going through at the time, I really related to that and connected with it. It’s more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership.”
Robin started dating 20-year-old model April in October last year, with the pair making their red carpet debut together at Cannes in May.
And it was recently reported that Robin had taken the next step in the romance by popping the question. But the star later confirmed to Billboard that this wasn’t the case.
