John Mayer is constantly excited by his life as a musician.

The 37-year-old is known for his incredibly successful career, with tracks including Gravity and Your Body Is a Wonderland under his belt.

And John said in a new interview that he never gets bored by what his career has in store for him on a daily basis.

“All I’ve ever wanted out of music is to look forward to waking up the next morning and seeing what’s going to come out of the guitar and what I’m going to figure out and what I’m going to create,” John told the My Stupid Mouth fan forum.

John spoke to the site ahead of joining Grateful Dead members in the super group Dead & Company.

He added that the prospect of taking to the stage with Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti is immensely exciting. However, he is aware he has big shoes to fill, and hopes his performance will please fans of the late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia.

“I’m doing this with the utmost respect also because this is a respect thing and not just a science,” he said. “It’s a very spiritual thing where I’m respecting these notes because they won’t ever die. That’s Jerry Garcia’s genetic code in all of these songs and in all of that playing. It’s really interesting how his music can do that. It’s so expressive.

“I’m learning how he thought and how he felt and where he was coming from, so I want to deeply respect that and also not hyper-extend myself to try to go for something I can’t get.”
