Day one of Wickerman, Scotland’s hottest summer music festival, came to a red hot close yesterday evening (Friday 25th July) when legendary band The Waterboys performed their epic track ‘Fisherman Blues’ under the stars. An unforgettable set from Scottish iconic Lulu gave the Summerisle Stage crowds something to ‘Shout’ about, whilst alternative rockers The Vaselines, hip hop group the Stereo MCs and much-loved British band Squeeze, delighted the thousands of Festival goers who gathered for the two day music extravaganza.

Nestled in the rolling green hills of Dumfries and Galloway, the scenic farm site features eight spectacular music stages and a host of on-site activities to keep revellers entertained throughout the weekend all under the gaze of the Festival’s iconic 40 foot Wickerman statue. Other main stage highlights included an energetic set from rock icon Julian Cope, super talented Glasgow act The Phantom Band and stomping folk rockers The is the Kit.

The legendary Scooter Tent treated Wicker fans to a series of mesmerising performances throughout the day. Post electro act Errors, The Vaselines, Pere Ubu and Eddie and The Hot Rods all took star turns, whilst The Ramonas energetic performance did not disappoint. This year’s new Pheonix Tent proved to be a huge hit with the crowds who filled the tent to see a string of home grown and international contemporary artists. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Paws and Kathryn Joseph all wowed the crowds who enjoyed their show stopping performances.

As the sun set in the late afternoon, the legend that is Lulu performed a special acoustic set in a new Pianoman Tent to raise money for cancer charity Maggie’s. The Scottish star delighted fans with her soulful voice and some great banter as donations poured in for the charity.

Tomorrow Tom Odell, Example and Jimmy Cliff await.
