Spotify has today cast a new light on this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival by releasing an alternative line-up based on UK streams to date in 2015.
The new line-up rearranges all three main stages across the weekend, giving popular newcomer James Bay the headline Pyramid slot above Florence & The Machine. But Spotify streams also reveal that Florence & The Machine were more than worthy candidates to replace the injury-prone Foo Fighters as Pyramid Stage headliners, as Florence & The Machine notched up more streams in the UK this year than the Foo Fighters anyway.
Spotify users have also managed to knock Kanye West down a notch, as young Bristolian George Ezra pips the controversial rapper to the top of Saturday’s bill. Popular Leeds locals Alt-J and Irish singer-songwriter Hozier set The Who tumbling off the top spot on Sunday, with both jumping above the classic rockers on the festival’s closing night.
With only a mere ten acts holding their original slot, the streaming figures from Spotify demonstrate how Glastonbury would result in a different event entirely if calculated using the artists’ popularity with UK music fans on Spotify.
