The Strokes brought the opening day of Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park to a spectacular close. Playing their first London show for five years they dazzled the audience with a greatest hits set.

'Reptilia' and 'Last Night' seemed to get the crowd into peek frenzy mode with lead singer, Julian Casablancas, rocking a deshevelled look. "we've really enjoyed ourselves" he said to the welcoming crowd, "we don't recognise London with this great weather!".

Music-News.com was there to see the show along with a great supporting perfomance from California based Beck.

Basking in a beautiful sunny London day the 60,000 strong crowd arrived to hear Syd Arthur open up the event and kick off the next two weeks of amazing music. As well as the main stage, artists including Yak, Gengahr, The Wytches and Public Service Broadcasting played to the audience across the two other stages on site.

In between performances fans enjoyed food from over 50 street food stalls scattered across the Hyde Park site. Next up on the main stage were Future Islands who played their enormous hit Seasons and kept the crowd jumping throughout their set. As the sun began to set, Beck arrived on stage and delivered a set packed with some of his greatest hits.

The whole day was attended by a host of celebrities including Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, Alex Kane, Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw, Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Daisy Lowe, Alexa Chung, Noel Fielding, Vernon Kay, Gemma Arterton, Pixie Geldof, Tiger Lily Geldof, XFM DJ Llilan Bird, Matt Smith, Stereophonics Kelly Jones, Ed Westwick, Nicole Appleton and actor Luke Treadaway.
