Joni Mitchell’s friend has been appointed her temporary conservator.
Following a hearing at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, the legendary singer’s long-term friend Leslie Morris was granted an order which gave her the ability to “provide for temporary care, maintenance and support” of the 71-year-old.
However, the order, which stands until July 8, does not give Leslie the ability to "take possession of money or any other property without a specific court order."
According to the Associated Press, attorney Alan Watenmaker confirmed that while Joni may be released from hospital in the near future, she is still not able to make any life-altering decisions about her future treatment or medical care.
And Rebecca Thyne, who was previously appointed Joni’s attorney by the court, agreed that the singer was unfit to make her own decisions.
"I believe that it is very necessary," Rebecca is said to have told the judge.
The iconic singer was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles on March 31, after being found unconscious at her home.
Last month, Joni’s representative denied claims that she was in a coma.
“Contrary to rumours circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma,” read a statement published on her website, jonimitchell.com. “Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.”
As the Help Me crooner recuperates, her representative has urged fans to send her their love.
“As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com,” the blog statement advised.
