Britney Spears has called her on-stage injury “kind of embarrassing”.

The 33-year-old singer hurt her ankle while performing as part of her Las Vegas residency last week. Since then she’s been spotted sporting a special boot to give her foot some support, and she’s now opened up about what really happened.

“Well, I actually wasn't doing anything that hard," she laughed to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. "I was just kind of bopping around. And I've done like eight years’ worth of shows. Plenty of shows! And I've never actually fell onstage, so it was really kind of embarrassing. But yeah, I fell down and I got up, and my dancers kind of guided me to keep going.”

Although she looked like a total pro when the incident occurred, Britney must have been in a lot of pain as she tore some of her ligaments.

The injury has caused her to cancel some of her upcoming shows as she recovers. Doctors told her she needed to take some time off over the weekend, which devastated her as she didn’t want to let anyone down.

It’s not all bad news though, as the star has confirmed she is extending her run at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino by three months.

“How about new #PieceOfMe dates to go with my new song? Tix go on sale 5/9 at 10am PT! (sic),” she confirmed on Twitter today.

This came after she hinted something was brewing during an interview with Ryan Seacrest yesterday.

“We're going to change up the show and make things more fresh and interesting going forward,” she explained.
