Nelly has been arrested on drugs charges.

The 40-year-old musician was taken into custody on Saturday morning in Tennessee, with police confirming the incident.

Nelly was travelling in his tour bus and cops saw the vehicle didn’t have the required US Department of Transportation and International Fuel Tax Association sticker on display. It was pulled over and searched, which is when marijuana, methamphetamines and several handguns were discovered.

Nelly was arrested and booked on a felony due to the methamphetamine, with the marijuana classed a misdemeanour. He’s also facing drugs paraphernalia charges as small bags commonly used to sell drugs in were found on the bus.

He has been released on $10,000 bail.

Police confirmed the arrest in a press release, where they explained that after stopping the bus cops smelt marijuana and so had probable cause to search it.

There were six people in the vehicle. One of those was Brian Jones, who has been charged for having a gun.

It’s believed there were three weapons on board, a 50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, a 45-caliber Tarus pistol and a 500 magnum Smith and Wesson.

The rapper’s lawyer has given a brief statement, insisting he is innocent.

“[I am] extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered,” Scott Rosenblum said, according to CNN.

He added there “had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop”.

Nelly had been performing at the Azalea Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina, the previous evening.

He is due to play a series of dates alongside TLC and New Kids on the Block for The Main Event Tour starting next month.
