Kanye West only had his ego before he got married.
The Yeezus singer tied the knot with reality star Kim Kardashian in a romantic ceremony in Florence, Italy, in May last year. The couple have 21-month-old daughter North together, and Kanye loves dividing his time between his family, music and budding fashion career.
“I feel like now I have an amazing wife, a super smart child and the opportunity to create in two major fields,” he told New York Times' T magazine . “Before I had those outlets, my ego was all I had.”
Certainly the 37-year-old has had a reputation for being outspoken and causing chaos for a number of years. Not only did he storm the stage when Taylor Swift was giving her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but he has had two altercations with paparazzi, one of which led to a court order to attend anger management sessions.
"I’m not angry anymore,” he admitted, “but I had to get my anger out.”
Kanye seems to have learnt a lot about himself since becoming a husband and father. The couple have spent months renovating a home in Hidden Hills, California, and finally moved in earlier this year.
But the rapper reveals there's an item in his new digs that he doesn't like, as it reminds him of his previous behaviour.
"I have this table in my new house. They put this table in without asking. It was some weird nouveau riche marble table, and I hated it," he said. "But it was literally so heavy that it took a crane to move it. We would try to set up different things around it, but it never really worked.
“I realised that table was my ego. No matter what you put around it, under it, no matter who photographed it, the douchebaggery would always come through."
