Jason Derulo "forgot" how many girls are "out there".
The 25-year-old had a serious accident in 2012, which ended with him fracturing a vertebra in his neck and being forced to cancel shows.
During his recovery he became very close to Jordin Sparks, also 25, and they started dating. Everyone thought they were headed for engagement, so it came as a surprise when they announced their split towards the end of last year.
"I'm having a lot of fun. I'm not really looking to settle down right away... It's been amazing," he grinned to People magazine.
"I've gotten a chance to really learn about myself and what I like and what I'm into, because sometimes you fall into something, and then you don't really know what else is out there... I had to relearn what else was out there and how other girls are, really."
Jason sees music as an outlet, so fans would be forgiven for thinking his upcoming album will be full of heartbreak tracks. However, he insists he's moved on and is focusing on making upbeat songs.
"I don't dwell. I don't stay in negativity," he assured his fans. "It's been almost a year now, and I'm still recording new songs. It would be weird for me to dwell on a relationship that was two months into my recording process. It was on a decline for those two months, then the relationship was done, so I was making this album [to be] a breath of fresh air."
Despite this, Jason calls the split a "big deal" and admits he and Jordin went through a lot together.
