A$AP Rocky is claiming ownership of his legacy.
The American star has been the name on everyone's lips since he released his debut album Long.Live.A$AP in 2013. Album song F**kin' Problems even landed him a Grammy nomination last year.
A$AP, real name Rakim Mayers, recently revealed the name of his long-awaited second record, getting fans excited at the mention of At.Long.Last.A$AP. And there's more to the title than meets the eye
"I'm claiming ownership of my legacy. Look at it: At.Long.Last.A$AP. A-L-L-A. Like slang for 'Allah.' It's the return of the god MC," A$AP boasted to American GQ.
"I'm named after Rakim [rapper], and I'm finally facing what it means: I was born to do this sh*t. And I hope I get to do it for a very long time."
While he's riding high on the music wave, it seems 26-year-old A$AP isn't content with only having a successful rap career.
His movie Dope debuted at this year's Sundance Festival and was well received by critics. A$AP plays Dom, a confident drug dealer in the coming-of-age tale.
"I was sober the entire time. My character's smoking cigarettes 'cause I didn't want to pretend to smoke weed," he explained.
A$AP couldn't enjoy the Sundance success as days before the screening his close friend, and co-founder of the A$AP mob, A$AP Yams was found dead. It was later ruled he had died of an accidental drugs overdose.
"Mentally I wasn't even there," he said about Sundance.
