It seems that the family of Marvin Gaye have tasted blood and are considering going to court again against Pharrell Williams.
The Gaye family won a lawsuit this week against both Pharrell and Robin Thicke over the song Blurred Lines being stolen from Marvin Gaye's 1977 hit Got to Give It Up. Pharrell and Thicke were ordered to pay $7.4 million in damages; however, there are plans to appeal the ruling. A number of legal experts have questioned the verdict pointing out that previous copyright infringement cases have relied on the copying of portions of the song as written in the sheet music where this case was based on rhythm and arrangement.
This time around, the Gaye family is setting its sites on the Williams megahit Happy from the movie Despicable Me 2. They are alleging that it copies elements from Gaye's 1965 hit Ain't That Peculiar. At this point, no formal litigation has been started.
Nona Gaye told Entertainment Tonight "I'm not going to lie. I do think they sound alike."
