Nick Gordon reportedly administered CPR on Whitney Houston, his mother claims.

The revelation came during an intervention Dr Phil staged with the 25-year-old and his mother, following a cry for help on social media.

Nick has been struggling to cope as his girlfriend, Whitney's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, remains in a coma after being found face-down in the bathtub of their Roswell, Georgia home on January 31.

During a recorded interview obtained by Extra, Nick's mum, Michelle, revealed her son found Whitney unconscious in the bath of her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton on February 11, 2012 and tried in vain to revive her.

“As we sit here right now, my son’s life hangs in the balance. When Whitney was found, he administered CPR to her and called me as he was standing in front of her saying, ‘Mom, why couldn’t I do it? I couldn’t get air into her lungs.’ He won’t let go of the guilt," she revealed.

Michelle's claim is all the more shocking considering the coroner's report stated that Whitney's assistant and bodyguard found her and pulled her from the bath and notified the hotel to call for an ambulance.

The circumstances surrounding Bobbi Kristina’s hospitalisation are eerily similar to that of her mother’s. Whitney’s death at the age of 48 was ruled an “accidental drowning”, with heart disease and cocaine use cited as contributing factors.

Dr Phil's intervention comes after Nick made a desperate plea for help on Twitter on Tuesday. Struggling to deal as Bobbi Kristina's condition fails to improve, he informed his followers he was considering harming himself.

"I'm so hurt I wanna do myself in, I know I have to [stay] strong (sic)," he wrote.

Bobbi Kristina, who turned 22 on Wednesday, remains in a coma in Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
