Madonna says not even her Brit Awards tumble can stop her.

The 56-year-old singer fell backwards down a small flight of stairs during the performance when a backup dancer pulled her cape, which she hadn’t managed to detach in time.

But after Madonna’s awards ceremony fall caused chaos on Twitter, the Queen of Pop took to her own social networking page to reassure her fans she’s OK.

“Armani hooked me up! My beautiful cape was tied too tight!" Madonna wrote on Instagram. "But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I'm fine!"

However, despite her reassurances, a source close to the singer revealed she was left “humiliated” by her fall, which occurred as she belted out her new single Living For Love to close the ceremony.

The performance marked Madonna’s first return to the Brits in 20 years, and represented something of a comeback for the singer.

“Madonna came in under the care and support of others,” an insider told Radar Online, adding that the singer returned to her hotel quickly after the performance. “She’s really hurt.

“She’s in a lot of pain, and she’s miserable. She’s embarrassed, sad, and disappointed.”

Madonna’s tumble sparked a sensation on Twitter.

Straight after her fall, a Twitter account was set up in the name ‘Madonna’s Cape’, and had a staggering 5,000 followers in a matter of minutes.

Despite the incident, Madonna managed to put the fall behind her long enough to complete her performance with enthusiasm and gusto.

Finishing the rendition, the star had a huge smile across her face as she ended the song with her first in the air.
