One Direction are "over the moon" about the Kids' Choice Awards nomination.

The annual ceremony is held by Nickelodeon and will be staged at The Forum in Los Angeles on March 28, with Nick Jonas hosting proceedings. The first few stars in the running for gongs have been announced, with the British boyband up for best group.

"We're over the moon to be nominated for Favorite Music Group at this year's Kids’ Choice Awards!” band member Niall Horan exclaimed to Us Weekly. “Thank you to Nickelodeon and of course to our incredible fans.”

Vying to take home the prize will be Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5 and OneRepublic.

This awards show is known as one of the more fun each year, not least because stars never know if they're going to be dashed with slime as they take to the stage.

Probably hoping that doesn't happen to them are the ladies competing in the best female singer category. It's hotly contested in 2015, with Ariana Grande, Beyoncé Knowles, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift all hoping to take home the prize.

The male version will go to either Blake Shelton, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams or Sam Smith.

Billboard revealed some of the other nominees yesterday, including the best song of the year category. It's all about the women this time around, with Meghan Trainor thrilled to get a mention for All About The Bass.

"I watched the Kids' Choice Awards every year growing up. I am so excited to be nominated for the first time and I can't wait to see you all there," she gushed.

Also hoping to pick up the prize is Iggy Azalea, whose song Fancy picked up a nomination. Rounding out the category are Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's Bang Bang, Katy Perry's Dark Horse and Taylor Swift's Shake it Off. Ariana and Iggy picked up another nomination for their collaboration Problem.

The Australian rapper was celebrated big time as she's also in the running for the best new artist award, alongside Five Seconds of Summer, Echosmith, Fifth Harmony, Jessie J and Meghan Trainor.

The awards are voted for by viewers, who can have their say via the Nickelodeon website or by tweeting #KCA.
