Lorde doesn't think she is "scary in person".
The 18-year-old singer has been a refreshing addition to the music industry since her debut single, Royals, was released in 2013. She has never been afraid of giving her opinion, whether on fellow artists or the business itself. But the teenager thinks it could have given her the reputation of being an angry Goth girl; a label nothing like who she really is.
"[It's] bulls**t. I'm not scary in person. I smile a lot," she told the British edition of Elle. "I feel like I've said too many wrong things. I saw Miley Cyrus at the Grammys. She didn't smile [at me]."
The Wrecking Ball singer is just one of the stars that Lorde has commented on in the past, mentioning Miley's love of skimpy clothing. However, she insists that her views were never about the singers themselves, but how the music industry can have sexist standards.
Lorde also finds it hard for people to take her seriously because of her age. The curly haired singer thinks it's unfair that adults don't appreciate teenagers more, because for her it's the most compelling time in a person's life.
"I'm, like, such a scholar of studying my friends," she added. "Just really their intelligence, being social, knowing how to navigate those situations and being, like, fluent in that. I honestly don't think there's a time in your life when you are more intelligent or more interesting than when you are this age."
However, the Team singer admits that her global fame has changed her in some ways.
"I've definitely learned how to be more flexible," she confessed. "Before I would just be like: 'F**k it.' I have such a strong idea of what is cool and great for me. But now the circle of people I work with is huge and spans continents and you have to be conscientious."
