Nick Jonas thinks Miley Cyrus "trod the waters carefully".
The 22-year-old hunk rose to fame with his brothers Kevin and Joe in group the Jonas Brothers, who also landed their own Disney TV show.
He and his siblings disbanded in 2013 and now Nick has moved into a successful solo career, with his second single Jealous from his self-titled album gaining new fans around the globe. He also has a revamped image, with Nick regularly posing topless much to the delight of fans.
His ex-girlfriend Miley, who he dated from 2006 to 2007, has also shed her Disney image in favour of a more sexual look, and the handsome star fully supports her decision.
“We haven’t really stayed in touch that much. I think we just grew apart over time, started to move in different circles.
"Criticism will come with whatever you do," Nick told British newspaper The Sun.
“But Miley trod those waters very carefully and was very confident in who she is and what she’s about.”
Nick is currently loved up with model and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo. He upped the rumour mill about a proposal when he got down on one knee during his performance at the Miss Universe pageant last weekend. However the couple aren't in a rush to tie the knot, with Nick admitting she had a face full of panic during the moment.
Olivia has made such an impact on his life that his latest track was inspired by her.
“The song came about nine months into our relationship. Someone kept staring at her and it was kind of uncomfortable because we were clearly on a date. It was such a disrespectful situation.
“We were at the beginning of our relationship, so I would have those moments of feeling nervous and jealous," he explained.
And Nick is clearly smitten with his stunning girlfriend, admitting he still "geeks out" about being her beau.
