Grand Ole Opry legend Little Jimmy Dickens has died at the age of 94. Dickens suffered a cardiac arrest following a stroke.
Dickens had been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1948 and in 1983 was inducted into the Country Hall of Fame.
The 4 foot 11 inch (150cm) country star wore rhinestone suits throughout his career that began in the 1930s when he would perform at WJLS radio in Beckley, West Virginia.
Dickens had his first hit ‘Take an Old Cold ‘Tater (And Wait)’ in 1949.
His biggest hit was ‘May The Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose’. It reached no 1 on the country chart and no 15 on the pop chart in 1965.
In 2011, Dickens appeared with Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley at the CMA Awards as Little Justin Bieber.
Dickens and Paisley has developed a strong friendship in recent years. He appeared in numerous Paisley videos and guested several times in Paisley albums.
Following the death of Hank Locklin in 2009, Dickens, at age 90, became the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry.
Jimmy Dickens is survived by his wife, Mona, and two daughters.
