Van Morrison has a new record label. The Irish icon has signed with RCA to release his next album, the 35th of his career.
Morrison was last with Blue Note who released his 2012 album Born to Sing: No Plan B which went to number 10, tying his best showing ever on the Billboard Albums chart.
The singer’s first album was released on Bang in 1967 and, starting with 1968’s Astral Weeks, he spent fifteen years with Warner Brothers. While with the label he released thirteen studio albums including some of his most critically acclaimed sets such as Moondance, His Band and Street Choir, Tupelo Honey and Saint Dominic’s Preview.
In 1984, he moved to Mercury where he released seven studio albums between 1985 and 1991. Polydor was next from 1993 to 1997 followed by Virgin/Point Blank (1999 to 2002), Blue Note (2003), Exile/Polydor (2005), Lost Highway (2006 to 2008) and back to Blue Note in 2012.
The new album is expected in early 2015. RCA President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Corson and Chief Executive Officer Peter Edge said in a joint statement “We are thrilled to have Van Morrison, the iconic musical visionary and legend, join the RCA roster. He is one of the most prolific and talented songwriters and performers in music today and we are honored to have him join us at the label and work with him on his forthcoming new album.”
Morrison said “I am looking forward to working with Tom, Peter and the RCA team as we plan release of the new project for next year.”
