5 Seconds of Summer will remember the moment they won an ARIA "forever".

Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin formed in Australia in 2011 and have gone on to become one of the biggest boybands in the world.

Today the ARIA Awards took place Down Under at The Event Centre at The Star Sydney and the group scored the prize for song of the year with their hit She Looks So Perfect.

"What an incredible night, I'll remember it forever, our first ARIA award, you guys always make awesome stuff happen (sic)," Ashton excitedly tweeted.

Michael added: "You guys won us a f**king aria, what an amazing night thank you all so much (sic)."

The band was also nominated in the best group, best pop release and breakthrough artist categories. Despite not cleaning up completely, the boys left happy.

"Thank you for voting ur asses off to win us an aria!! I love you and you and you (sic)," Calum posted on Twitter, with Luke adding: "Was a very special night tonight :) Im so very grateful for everything. Thanks for all the support aus :) goodnight ! #biglove (sic)"

5 Seconds of Summer enjoyed global exposure when they supported One Direction on their Where We Are and Take Me Home tours. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan also attended the awards, and didn't leave empty handed. For the third year in a row, they took home the best international artist honour.

"Thank you so much Australia you guys are amazing another great day and another award huge!!!!! (sic)," Liam wrote.

Niall also thanked fans: "Just won an ARIA ! Yes bruu ! thank you to all the Aussie fans for voting for us! Love you! (sic)"

It's been a great run for One Direction, who picked up three prizes at the American Music Awards over the weekend.
