Pink Floyd and ‘The Endless River’ is positioning itself to beat the Foo Fighters expansive TV show soundtrack ‘Sonic Highways’ in the UK.

Pink Floyd’s ‘The Endless River’ has sold around 92,000 units in the first part of the week making it the fastest selling album of the year in the UK so far, reports The Official Charts Company.

Dave Grohl may be heading to the number two spot with ‘Sonic Highways’ but he said he is happy losing out to Pink Floyd.

At a Q&A this week in London Grohl was asked by the Floyd dominance at his expense on the UK chart this week. He answered, “Do I regret the last two years of my life? No! I mean if we’re going to take a Number Two to anybody, I’ll take it to Pink Floyd you know what I mean? I imagine that it could be worse. I mean at this point you have to imagine we’re not really that concerned about that sorta thing cause we got what we got and its really great, we get to make records and then we go out and play big shows, then go home and come back and do it all again so I don’t have too many complaints in life. It could be a lot fucking worse.”

‘The Endless River’ is Pink Floyd’s first album in 20 years and also their last. The album was recorded during the sessions for their last album ‘The Division Bell’. In the past 20 years the band lost its keyboard player Richard Wright to cancer in 2006. ‘The Endless River’ is a tribute to Wright featuring his last work.

For Foo Fighters, ‘Sonic Highways’ is the next step in their journey. The band created the album in front of cameras and turned the footage into the Sonic Highways TV series on HBO. The show airs Saturdays at 4:30pm in Australia on Go.

“It’s the kind of thing we don’t really pay attention to cause were too busy in our fucked up little world,” Grohl said. “I mean the most important thing to me is that people come and see the band play cause that’s where I think we’re at our best and we go out and play for three fucking hours and take people’s faces off its like you walk away from that like ‘Oh, that’s why I’m in a band.’ That’s why we do it.”

Pink Floyd have had five number one albums in the UK. ‘Atomic Heart Mother’ (1970), ‘Wish You Were Here’ (1975), ‘The Final Cut’ (1983), ‘The Division Bell’ (1994) and ‘Pulse’ (1995).

The band’s two biggest selling albums did not reach no 1 in the UK. ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ (1973) reached no. 2 in the UK and ‘The Wall’ (1979) reached no. 3. ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ also peaked at no 2 in Australia but ‘The Wall’ was a no 1 record in Australia in 1979.

In the USA, ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘The Wall’ and ‘The Division Bell’ were all number one albums.
