Naomi Judd has spoken out about her “mother-daughter relationships”.

The 68-year-old country music singer has two daughters in the entertainment industry - actress Ashley Judd and singer Wynonna Judd. Their family ties are notoriously rocky. Naomi has commented on the tension between them.

"Yeah..." she tentatively told American talk show Watch What Happens Live, when host Andy Cohen asked if things were okay between them. "But it's that mother-daughter relationship, you know?"

Their family problems have often been public in the past. Last year, Divergent star Ashley reportedly accused sister Wynonna of spying on her. However, Naomi put on a brave face as she was asked what her daughters were up to.

"Wynonna is staying out on the road so stinkin' much, singing. Ashley, I know, is in the Smoky Mountains, hiking," she said of her family.

"We live in a valley, a very remote valley — it's called Peaceful Valley [in Tennessee]. We try! Wynonna lives over the hill behind me, and Ashley lives up the road. It's a compound. W.A.C.O. — we ain't comin' out!"

In spite of Naomi’s jovial tone, the history of problems in this family is long and detailed.

Ashley even wrote a memoir in 2012 that revealed she’d been sexually abused as a child and her family failed to believe her. This book is said to have caused even more of a family rift.

In addition, Naomi once told Piers Morgan that Ashley “isn’t as smart as she acts”. Most recently, Wynonna got married to Cactus Moser and it’s said neither her sister nor mother were invited to the wedding.

“She probably doesn't even know [about the wedding],” Wynonna said of Ashley at the time, in an interview with Us Weekly.
