Sam Smith is no expert on relationships.

His debut album In the Lonely Hour has topped charts all around the world and is filled with songs about love and heartbreak.

However, Brit Sam has never even had a boyfriend, although he is hoping he'll find Mr Right soon.

“I’ve never been in a relationship," Sam confessed to British newspaper The Daily Star.

"That’s why this album is called In the Lonely Hour. But hopefully I’ll meet someone new.”

Sam's had a mammoth year so far, smashing on to the music scene at the beginning of 2014. Yesterday he was recognised for all his hard work at not one but two separate British music award shows.

At the Q Awards yesterday afternoon he took home the gong for Best New Act. Later that evening he was crowned RnB/soul act, male artist, best song and best album at the MOBO Awards.

He was joined at the glitzy London bash by Nicole Scherzinger and Jessie J, but it's fellow A-list artist Adele who Sam is hoping to get in the studio with.

“She hasn’t approached me yet but I’ve met her and she’s lovely," he smiled.

After an eventful day, the 22-year-old star took to his Twitter to thank his supporters for all their love.

"FOUR F**KING MOBOS!!!!!!! How do I even begin to thank you all? I'll love you forever x

"5 AWARDS IN 1 DAY. Completely emotionally drained and so thankful. I love you UK. What a welcome back (sic)," he posted to his legion of fans, adding a crying face to show how choked up he was.
