Ariana Grande surprised New York City clubgoers with a performance at the weekend.

The 21-year-old Problem hitmaker was this week's musical guest on Saturday Night Live, but her night didn’t end after the US comedy sketch show went off the air.

The singer made an appearance at gay nightclub BMP at 3 a.m., according to E! News.

Photos obtained by the outlet show Ariana hitting the stage in a white costume with sequin fringe as she sang her hits Bang Bang and Break Free for the crowd of 2,000.

"They went wild," a source told the network.

Ariana’s collaborator and possible love interest Big Sean was also reportedly at the event.

The pair have been the subject of romance rumours for weeks.

"That Ariana is very, very special," the rapper said last week when addressing the gossip with American radio host Ryan Seacrest.

"She's very special to me. Everything she has going on is good with her, everything I have going on is good with me, everything between me and her is good, and I'm just going to leave it at that," he said.

The musicians have collaborated on songs including Best Mistake, Right There and Problem.

Ariana simply blushed when quizzed about their relationship status by Ryan earlier this year.

“I mean, I guess, curiosity man, it’ll kill you. I don’t know what to say, Ryan. Why are you doing this me?” she demanded.

“I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you when we’re not on the air. I trust you,” she continued. “I’ve known you a long time. I don’t know about these millions of people listening in right now.”
