Barbra Streisand doesn't sing in her own house.
The legendary songstress has had five number one albums in five decades. But surprisingly she doesn't like to be the centre of attention once she's off stage.
"I was never that type of person – I don't even sing at home! I can't sing when I can see people. I get spooked," she told People magazine. "[Singing]'s not about performing. I like it when it's just me and my music. I don't have to be charming or funny."
But that doesn't mean she doesn't admire people who are. During her chat with the publication, she recalled a time when she spent the evening with Liza Minnelli at fashion designer Donna Karan's house.
"Liza got up in the middle of the room to sing, and I thought, 'How the hell does she do that?'" she recalled.
The 72-year-old is currently promoting her 34th album, Partners. But one way she won't be spreading the word is via social networking sites because it's a medium that baffles her.
"I have Twitter, but I don't know how to do it," she admitted. "I think I'm probably from another time."
Her latest record sees her duet exclusively with male artists including Blake Shelton, Lionel Richie, John Mayer and Babyface. The Woman in Love singer had a number of reasons why the album is dominated by the boys.
"I like men. Men are easier to deal with than women — most of the time," she recently told USA Today. "We asked a few women to be on it, but they were unavailable, busy. One didn't like the lyric to a song. The men were available.”
