Liam Payne likes to go incognito.
The One Direction hunk is one of the most famous stars in the world, and he and bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik are known the world over.
However, sometimes 21-year-old Liam likes it when he goes unnoticed, and relishes the moments he's not mobbed by screaming fans.
"I actually really like being undercover. Not under covers, although that does make me happy too," Liam laughed to the British edition of Cosmopolitan. "But, like, when I was in [New York toy store] FAO Schwarz and literally no one came up to me; I was just walking around with everyone completely unaware.
"It was really nice. Until this guy came over to me and was like, 'Hey man, where'd you score the corn?' He just wanted to know where to get popcorn! I was like, 'Over there!'"
Liam is currently on the One Direction Where We Are Tour, which has so far seen them play shows in North America, South America and Europe.
It wraps in October, and while Liam likes meeting the band's fans while out and about, it can sometimes be tiring for the Brit star.
"You know what, I get the fans' point of view, but sometimes you just don't want a picture. It's one of those things. And you do feel bad about it most of the time but you know, you've got to live your life and be a man," he sighed.
Tonight the boys take to the stage in Pasadena, California, with support from 5 Seconds of Summer and Jamie Scott.
