5 Seconds of Summer's Calum Hood cites Green Day as the reason he got into music.

The Australian bassist and his bandmates Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Ashton Irwin have been enjoying success with hit singles such as She Looks So Perfect and Amnesia. All the lads enjoy keeping fans up to date with their antics on Twitter, and Calum was keen for their followers to know who inspired his musical dream.

"Watchin a bunch of green day stuff. These dudes are the reason I love music (sic)," he wrote.

Fans were quick to praise their idol's choice of band, piling in compliments about the similarities between both bands.

"and you guys are the reason why i love music :)) love youu (sic)," @HOODTHECRAIC wrote.

The group's music has been dubbed pop-punk and they have won people over with their catchy guitar riffs and playful lyrics. But one particular description of their sound has lead singer Luke confused.

"WTF, 5 seconds of summer aren't Funk Rock (sic)," the 18-year-old insisted on Twitter.

All four members are currently travelling to promote their debut self-titled record. While on the road the lads enjoy the normalities of teenage life, such as watching B-movies together.

"watching sharknado with @Luke5SOS. its really good," Michael wrote.

"that was sarcasm by the way (sic)", he added of the Tara Reid-starring movie about a waterspout that lifts sharks out of the ocean and deposits them in Los Angeles.

But the humorous movie wasn't enough to send Michael into a sound night's sleep.

"Can't sleep. halp :( (sic)," he shared with his fans.
