T.I. is defending Iggy Azalea against her many critics, especially those who say she is racist.
The Australian rapper has faced accusations of cultural appropriation due to her style and lyrics.
But T.I. believes people are being hugely unfair towards the 24-year-old.
“That pisses me off, simply because they don’t have any real substantial grounds,” T.I. told Complex magazine, according to MTV. “‘I don’t like them.’ Why? ‘Just ‘cause.’ What do you mean just ‘cause? Since when do you get the right to judge people? Who died and made you the emperor of Egypt?”
The musician goes on to say Iggy is misunderstood because she is not from the United States, and people don’t understand the cultural differences. Having worked closely with the young star, T.I. believes he knows her and insists there is no racism in Iggy.
“That kind of sh*t and then the things that they accuse her of, like the racist stuff. That’s not even her. That’s not even in her. Me knowing her, knowing where she comes from—for real, the whole racist thing, that’s American—we forget, she’s not American,” he explained.
T.I. previously had deny rumours he was ghostwriting lyrics for Iggy. The reports started after Nicki Minaj appeared to allude to the fact, something she later said she never meant to do.
“Iggy got her own ideas and thoughts that she presents to the world her own way. I couldn’t write a lot of the sh*t she say, you know?" T.I. explained to Bijou Star.
"I couldn’t put her thoughts into words as articulate as she does. You know what I’m saying? She just has a different way of presenting herself and her art."
